Summer is a busy time for all life in the Havenwood. The warm air hums with the sound of insects while birds call to each other as they search for food and raise their families. The change of seasons has brought on a rush of new plant growth and the forest bursts with fresh green and cool blue. The bushes are heavy with ripe berries. Food comes easy and the hungry winter is nearly forgotten. For the Nimblefolk that live in the village of Bathspring, it represents a productive time of foraging and adventure.
This is a writing project that hopefully will turn into a tangible book. Children and adults will enjoy the stories and lose themselves in the small lives of the Nimblefolk.
As a child I spent holidays at my grandparents cabin in the mountains of West Virginia. I would spend my time outside playing near the trees at the edge of forest. I was busy constructing little bark and stick villages amongst the roots of trees. I built elaborate towns and imagined the lives of the gnomes that lived there. Outside of my childhood play, I have a connection with Scandinavia. I grew up listening to and reading stories about “Nisse men”. I thought about how fun it would be if they were really part of our life. My love of nature and natural ability to notice the small things has set me on the path to explore a new world that starts at the base of a tall tree.
